THE PLASTIC BAGS OF JOSH BLACKWELL

"Plastic bags are the second most common form of litter
in the world after cigarette butts.
They symbolize the ambiguous nature of capitalism,
with its great abundance and great squalor.
Equally fascinated and repulsed by these objects,
Josh began embroidering plastic bags in 2004.
Initially raiding kitchen cupboards and utility closets,
he started collecting plastic bags with the intention
of rendering the bags harmless by sewing them shut.
Sewing the two sides of the bag together
denies its function while revealing its essential necessity."

PREPARATIONS FOR THE EXHIBITION

Remember my previous post? See here...
The whole weekend I made preparations,
painting, printing, thinking, finishing scarf 56...
By the way: scarf 56 is the new 43!
It's not the same, but very much alike :-)
Someone wanted a 43, so I tried.

Hope to see some of you on 3, 4 or 5 september in Ghent!

TROUVAILLES 3

Flashy colours from Canada!
Found in one of the many thrift stores we visited.

DRAWING ON THE WALL

Since we came back from beautiful Canada,
I have been making this pencildrawing on my wall.
It's a wall where our livingroom used to be,
and soon we're moving my looms there.
The lines refer to fabrics,
but they also refer to the grid where I design weaving patterns on.

Still have a lot of work :-)

Later some pictures of Canada!
