BLACK AND WHITE

The New Big Project!

Building an installation for the Concertgebouw here in Bruges!

We (that's Jeffrey, my boyfriend and me) had to pick a person/event 

out of their programme as an inspiration for the installation. 

We were triggered by the work of Ryoiji Ikeda, playing 10 april in the concerthall.

The weaving will be a graphical interpretation of his work,

30 handwoven panels (40 x 40 cm)  and 50 industrial woven panels,

all just in black and white.

Three months for us to finish the weaving and making the panels and installation

(next to our regular jobs ofcourse).

Just black and white, not easy for me, 

but I like the results up till now :-)

Many thanks to the Concertgebouw and De Invasie for giving us this chance!

WORKSPACE

Enjoying my workspace in daylight during my holiday.
My next project is a big one and without colour,
just black and white, maybe grey.
In the next post I will give some explanation...

My mimosa started blooming again now he's inside for the winter.

ROSA POMAR

The first picture is some yarn, made in Portugal that Rosa Pomar sent me by mail.
(What a nice present to get in your mailbox :-)
The following pictures are made by Rosa herself.

Rosas passion is researching traditional portuguese textiles. 
She spends a lot of her time traveling around Portugal with her husband, 
he records traditional music they learn from old weavers, spinners, shepherds.

Retrosaria is her shop in the center of Lisbon that sells yarn, fabric, etc. 
In the last few years Rosa has tried to promote and defend portuguese wool 
by creating and selling yarns that are spun from different portuguese breed of sheep. 
Some of these yarns are still handspun in small villages 
following the same processes and using the same simple tools that have been used for centuries...
Rosa is currently finishing a book on traditional portuguese knitting.

Very black and very colourful at the same time.
I enjoyed weaving this one very much,
a friend told me it reminds her of Tron. :-)
A new warp is waiting,
this time a scarf for me (I hope)!
(Or at least one to share with Jeffrey...)

Quite some busy scarf times!
This one is a birthday scarf,
lots of black with lots of coloured accents.
When the birthday boy has received his present,
