SILVIA HEYDEN - A WEAVERLY PATH

Through the blog of my former weaving teacher Annie Devriese,

I learned about the work of tapestry weaver Silvia Heyden.

Instantly I bought the dvd A Weaverly Path,

about the life and work of Silvia.

Kenny Dalsheimer’s A Weaverly Path captures a privileged
and intimate slice of time observing Silvia Heyden,
providing an unprecedented opportunity to see and hear
what she experiences during a period of deep involvement with her Muse, the Eno River.
Heyden’s quest is not to weave a representational depiction of the river,
but to interpret the river’s fluid patterns, shapes, sounds,
and ever-changing nature, to represent its movement and flow with the yarns of her tapestries.
Heyden expresses her current philosophy in regard to tapestry weaving 

as having expanded greatly from what she originally described in her book, 

stating that she expects it to continue changing as long as she is alive and able to weave. 

She believes strongly that tapestry exists as its own art form 

which should not be compared to paintings or created from drawings or photographs, 

but which should instead evolve by looking at the world through “weaver’s eyes”.

50 years of weaving...

Still a long way ahead of me :-)

PART THREE!

And I'm weaving, weaving, weaving, weaving... :-)
+ enjoying ofcourse!

As I said, I need seven parts of two metre,
this is part three.
What I like about this weaving assignment,
is that I can use techniques that are not suitable for scarves,
because of their backsides (pictures 5),
too long loose threads.

Now back to work!

STILL PART TWO

 

My inspiration wall is coming down

and the weaving is going very slow...

Another 50 cm to weave of part two.

In total I'm making 7 parts,

so I have to keep my spirits up! :-)

A little weaving break today gave me a boost,

snow was melting and the sun was shining,

riding my bike through Bruges 

and visiting a small exhibition,

seeing friends and hearing surprising news.

2013 is going to be a wonderful year...

BLACK AND WHITE

The New Big Project!

Building an installation for the Concertgebouw here in Bruges!

We (that's Jeffrey, my boyfriend and me) had to pick a person/event 

out of their programme as an inspiration for the installation. 

We were triggered by the work of Ryoiji Ikeda, playing 10 april in the concerthall.

The weaving will be a graphical interpretation of his work,

30 handwoven panels (40 x 40 cm)  and 50 industrial woven panels,

all just in black and white.

Three months for us to finish the weaving and making the panels and installation

(next to our regular jobs ofcourse).

Just black and white, not easy for me, 

but I like the results up till now :-)

I will keep you posted on the evolution!

WORKSPACE

Enjoying my workspace in daylight during my holiday.
My next project is a big one and without colour,
just black and white, maybe grey.
In the next post I will give some explanation...

My mimosa started blooming again now he's inside for the winter.
