RECYCLING AND BLUE

Thank God it's friday!
Tomorrow Jeffrey and I are visiting Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven,
ready for some design inspiration...
Yesterday I finished weaving the blue scarf,
now I have to do some finishing touches before it can be worn by it's owner.
So more pictures later!
Every time I make a new scarf it feels like it's the 'best' one I have ever made.
Probably because I keep searching for the best materials and new techniques,
but with quite some weaving experience.
I think I'm weaving for 8 or 9 years now...
And still so much to do.

You remember I have won a prize?
On the first of december 2013 an exhibition will open,
with the work of all prize winners.
I need some new placemats for this event,
have to weave 15 meters this time!

WOVEN TREASURES - SWEDEN

Back to my summer vacation!
We drove by car to Finland, so we passed through Sweden.
In Stockholm I saw all these woven treasures
in the textile gallery of Nordiska muséet.
There you have drawers full of knitted, woven, embroidered fabrics
and many other techniques.
Needless to say I went crazy and examined every drawer in the room...

Still working on the blue scarf.
And thinking of new things to do.
Other then scarves.
Or not just scarves on demand,
but like a collection, with a story.
On my pinterest I have a board called
"One day I'll weave a coat".
That would be just great!

Anyway,
things have to change sometimes.
And I need change.
But I have never been a fast one,
so there's still some scarves coming up.
;-)

Maybe that's why I enjoyed our trip so much...

What I am working on at the moment?

A blue scarf,

preparing an exhibition in december,

and trying to work on my new loom.

I did some heavy cleaning in my atelier,

for a photoshoot of our house,

but probably more about all that later!

+ It's getting cold here.

Time for some scarfweaving :-)

ANYONE FEELING COLD?

  

So this my interpretation of a red scarf.

It was a big search for different reds to combine,

and that in different materials;

there's some merino, alpaca, mohair, ...

I thought weaving a complete red scarf, in warp and weft, would have been too much.

And I like red being more red among other colours.

It's a big one, a soft one, a warm one.

And it's for sale! :-)

Next weekend,
In Ghent: Oeverture!
I'm showing and selling one scarf,
together with the work of
Dominique Dufait (leather),
Jeannine Vrins (ceramics),
Lie Vandrie (ceramic jewellery),
and our theme is RED.

The scarf has lots of red,
but weaving one colour just isn't my cup of tea...
So there's also blue, grey, white, orange...

3 WEEKS IN FINLAND

And these are the results of the time I had in the car and on the ferry,

I tried some embroidery instead of weaving for practical reasons ofcourse! :-)

(Yes, we went from Belgium to Finland by car, 

going through Germany, Denmark and Sweden...)

Other blogposts will follow,

but I can tell you Finland breathes arts and crafts.

We felt at home :-)

But I am also glad to be back,

the trip gave me tons of new energy,

by seeing the beautiful landscapes and works of lots of Finnish artists.

I brought back books and wool and ceramics and baskets and mittens

and smoked salmon too... :-)

We should travel more...
